We wish to seek your views on the school Accessibility Plan. The Equality Act 2010 replaced all existing equality legislation, including the Disability Discrimination Act.
The act requires schools to have an accessibility plan aimed at:
- Increasing the extent to which disabled pupils can participate in the curriculum
- Improving the physical environment of schools to enable disabled pupils to take better advantage of education, benefits, facilities and services provided
- Improving the availability of accessible information to disabled pupils
This is explained on page 29 of advice for schools on the Equality Act, published by the Department for Education (DfE).
A draft of this plan is on the school website and I urge you to review it and request any comments to be given to the school office, either verbally or in writing, no later than 31st January 2018.
